Of Names and Destinies.

Yesterday was pretty...nice.

I really appreciate the fact that Sidesmiles is just as idiotic as me. ahahah. Some day ago a customer came and he was asking for this book of baby names and such.. So I was doing something else (or toilet) and that leaves Sidesmiles to attend him. The store has about four books about names, but only three of them are really for baby names. The fourth one was....more biblical terms than names. Like those hebrew terms that mean smth. ahahah but its still names. So Sidesmiles went to look for these four books..... and of course the first she found was the biblical terms one. So she gave the customer that...and he took it. LOOOL.

So thats part I.

And now for yesterday... We were kinda leaving the I-tunes playing for awhile, not bothering to change into suitable tracks, and then suddenly we were bombarded by a pack of wild kids voices singing kids songs. EUGH. annoying like heck. looool.  esp the JESUS LOVES ME THIS I KNOW..FOR THE BIBLE TELLS ME SO.... blah blah. ahahahahah. seriously the kids voices were so annoying. and they were off-key. but ah well. :P

But Sidesmiles got curious and then started checking out the song titles. And the titles were so funny. There's "Oh where Oh where did my Little Dog Go?" and "Rocka my Soul" and lead to heaps of laughter as we listened to them also. well for me i was more laughing out of disgust :P but Sidesmlies was like: :"THEY SANG THIS IN BARNEY" looool.

Eek. I don't like Barney. I'm more of a Sesame Street guy. or was I.....nvm.

So we continued browsing the songs. The first few ones were all christian songs...but then we came across Yankee Doodle (LOL)... and then...

THE ALPHABET SONG.

So I was like "What is so christian about that??" And then Sidesmiles: "Well maybe its not the normal Alphabet song (we havent listened to it yet), it could be an advanced alphabet song, like you know, each alphabet standing for a bible name or smth."

So then we started thinking of what the alphabets could stand for. Then we slowly went from

A for Adam.
B for Barnabas. (!?)
C for Cain

all the way to Z for Zaccheus, but we skipped so much along the way :O couldnt think of any names for certain letters, (Q, X, K, W, F,) :O gah we seriously need more bible reading.

But, we don't give up so easily of course. So of course I went to get the four book for bible names (even the biblical terms one) and then we started looking at the alphabets of those we don't know.

So we were just checking out the names, laughing at some of them....("why would anyone name their son or daughter Reginald??" "I didnt know Rachel means Lamb")

But yeah. It was great fun at that time. And it passes the time. Lol.

Oh btw turns out its the normal alphabet song. ay bee see dee eee effff g. So haha.

But then I was telling that to my mom in the car. She laughed and said: "We didnt give you and your brother those english names." So I was like yeah. And then she said something interesting.

"The Navigators people didnt give a lot of their children english names."

Considering the bunch of people thats my parents timezone, I discovered it to be true. Like Yi Zhong, Yue Chuen, Yang Yen, Chern Sern, and others. Yeah Pony-poop too. :P

So I was asking why, then my mom said because the english names' meaning are hard to know, whereas the chinese names can straightaway be identified by someone who knows chinese.

And then she told me what my name meant.

I was aware of  what it meant, but hearing it again from my mom this time suddenly made such an impact on me that I was really moved. And then for the rest of the drive home I was quiet...

Of course, the names were christianity-based.

Xin literally means trust. But biblical-speaking it means Faith.

You means blessed. Protected, sheltered, nurtured. Kept in safety. Blessed.

For the first time, I couldnt be more happy with my name. Thank you, mom and dad. And of course God. :)
